Treasury Officer (Back Office)

Job Purpose

The Treasury Officer (Back Office) is responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely settlement of Treasury transactions, monitoring fund flows, and maintaining proper records in compliance with internal controls, regulations, and international banking standards. This role supports treasury operations by safeguarding against operational risks, ensuring data accuracy, and providing critical reporting for management and regulators.

Key Areas of Responsibilities

  1. Transaction Settlement & Monitoring

    • Settle Treasury transactions, including Money Market (MM), Foreign Exchange (FX), Bonds, and Treasury Bills.

    • Monitor and verify incoming/outgoing fund transfers via SWIFT, CBM-NET, and Nostro accounts.

    • Ensure accurate processing of payment instructions and settlement confirmations.

  2. Reconciliation & Reporting

    • Perform daily reconciliation of cash positions, securities, and transactions with front office and counterparties.

    • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly treasury operational reports to management and regulators.

    • Maintain updated records of deals, SWIFT messages, settlement instructions, and confirmations.

  3. System Operations & Audit Support

    • Input and validate treasury transactions in the Core Banking System (CBS).

    • Support internal and external audit processes by providing documentation and clarifications.

    • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and audit requirements.

  4. Risk & Control Management

    • Monitor operational risks within settlement and reporting processes.

    • Identify, escalate, and report breaches, mismatches, or operational incidents promptly.

    • Support the Officer in implementing internal control measures.

  5. Team Support & Ad-Hoc Duties

    • Assist the Officer in supervising day-to-day tasks of the Treasury Back Office team.

    • Provide guidance to junior staff in settlement and reconciliation activities.

    • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Unit Head and Section Head.

Job Specification

  • Education:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field.

    • Professional certifications (DA, ACCA, CPA, ACI Operations Certificate) will be an advantage.

  • Experience:

    • Minimum 2–4 years of experience in Treasury Operations, Banking Operations, or Financial Markets.

    • Prior experience in settlement, reconciliation, or back-office functions preferred.

  • Skills & Knowledge:

    • Strong understanding of Treasury products (FX, MM, Bonds, Bills).

    • Knowledge of SWIFT messages, CBM-NET, and Nostro account operations.

    • Proficiency in Core Banking Systems and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

    • Strong analytical, reconciliation, and reporting skills.

    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements in banking and treasury operations.
